Magoso African Design 2023 Fashion show

It is with pleasure to inform you that these models were glamourous. They exuded royalty in their African Kitenge designs. The dress really expressed the prestigious African culture. A larger percentage of the designs were solely Magoso designs except for the few which expressed the designers artistic work even higher. The designers found a way of recycling some old thrift clothes with the kitenge to bring out the mood of the day.

The models were mainly Magoso pupils, alumnus, Japanese interns under the school’s main sponsor Chiaki Hayawaki, magoso staff and Magoso Community Centre beneficiaries. The dressers really understood the assignment by making sure that these aspiring young generation looked fabulous.

The event also focused in naturing talents of these models. It gives space for aspiring models to build confidence and give the safe space for networking.  

‘The event also provided space for the school make-up artists, hairdressers and barbers to showcase their work,’ Head makeup artist Celine Atieno said.

Models also had a photo cession with the guests and the attendees.

Music and art

Soft and soulful music with a essence of African jazz by DJ Rahmah helped keep the day glowing. Legendary African Nyatiti, Marimba, Luo Orutu, among others keep the guests entertained in the beeter part of the day. The head of the instruments Sam Jangoma made sure of this.

Magoso super hilarious MCs Hezekiah Ogira and Cosmas Otiso really carried the day. The team worked in unison to keep the crowd engaged.

Designers and tailors

Magoso African Designs executive designer Lilian Wagala, the founder of both Magoso School and Magoso African Design draws inspiration from mostly traditional African culture. The famous African Kitenge was the main material used for the designs except in few cases where there was in cooperation of recycled thrift cloths with the Kitenge for the artistic work.

The tailors also got watched and cheer their work.

The community and attendees

The main attendees of the event were Magoso pupils’ parents, friends, general community and the invited guests. The attendees watched the models and got opportunity to interact with them. They also got the chance to buy some of the Magoso designs. Free food and drinks were also served.
